The Essex Selectboard has two meetings next week: a regular meeting on Jan. 13 and a meeting with the Essex Junction Board of Trustees on Jan. 14.

The Jan. 13 meeting begins with a fiscal year 2021 budget work session at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Offices, 81 Main St., followed by a regular meeting at 7 p.m. The agenda includes the following items:
- Fiscal year 2021 budget work session
- Public to be heard
- Interviews of candidates for the Economic Development Commission
- Discussion of a voter petition to create a six-member Selectboard, with three members from the Village of Essex Junction and three from outside the Village
- Consideration of approving a grant application to support recovery housing at Fort Ethan Allen
- Assigning fund balance money from fiscal year 2019
- Finalize the Selectboard's proposed fiscal year 2021 budget and warn a public hearing
- Update on status of union contract negotiations (discussion expected to happen in executive session)
- Evaluation of a public employee (expected to happen in executive session)
- Consent agenda, which includes finalizing upcoming meeting dates in January and February, acknowledging a new name of a private street, and check warrants.

The Jan. 14 meeting will start at 7:15 p.m. (or immediately after the Village of Essex Junction Trustees wrap up their meeting) at the Village Offices, 2 Lincoln St. Agenda items include the following:
- Public to be heard
- Consideration of creating a Housing Commission for all of Essex
- Consideration of a public outreach plan for the potential 2020 merger process between the Town of Essex and Village of Essex Junction
- Possible creation of a Greater Essex 2020 facebook page
- Consent agenda, which includes an application for an emerald ash borer management grant, and minutes of Nov. 26, 2019.
