In his tribute to Marcel Marceau and his teacher, Etienne Decroux, Rob Mermin shares his memories of training with these legendary mime masters. Mermin, the founder of Vermont's Circus Smirkus, explores the metaphors of mime technique and presents rare film clips of Marceau and Decroux teaching, bringing to life the essence of what Marceau called "the silent language of the soul." The legacy of Marceau encompasses not only his virtuosity in mime, but also his work in the French Resistance saving Jewish children during WWII. Marceau's life as artist and humanitarian earned him the respect of the world.
Rob will show film clips of Marceau's speech accepting the Raul Wallenberg Humanitarian Award in 2001. A Vermont Humanities Council event hosted by Friends of the Plainfield Town Hall Opera House. Plainfield, Plainfield Town Hall Opera House, US Route 2 at the Blinking Light, 4:00 pm.
