Dear Neighbors,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and wish each of you only the best in the new year. May 2020 and the decade to come bring you good health, happiness, the time to pursue your greatest dreams and all that brings meaning to your life and those around you.

This coming Monday, the City Council will hold its first of three meetings in the month of January. We will begin our Council meeting from 6 to 7pm with a work session on Accessory Dwelling Units or ADUs. These units are one of several tools the City is looking to increase our City's housing stock. They are often used as a way for homeowners to add to their property's value and can be income-producing thereby allowing some to remain in their homes as their needs require.

Following the work session, we have a relatively light deliberative agenda:

• A presentation on Steps to End Domestic Violence.

• A communication from the Mayor on the appointment of Jennifer Morrison as Interim Chief of Police.

• A resolution on funding alternative transportation. This resolution requests that the Department of Public Works provide a report to the Council to include revenues from parking systems along with the current budget and uses of these funds. The resolution further requests a list of uses of these funds that would reduce vehicle miles and possibly eliminate fares on some bus routes to encourage more public transit. The resolution also asks for a list of revenue raising ideas that could be used to fund more alternative transportation in an effort to address our climate emergency.

Following our deliberative agenda, the Council is expected to go into Executive Session to receive and update on CityPlace and on Burlington Passenger Rail and Waterfront Bike Path relocation.

You are always welcome to come to a Council meeting and speak on any topic you wish during public forum which begins at 7:30pm. All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and can be streamed to your computer or phone via youtube.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Please be in touch with your comments, questions and concerns.

My best,
Karen
