A CD release concert featuring material from Dominique's new album, Cànan nan Teud (The Language of the Strings) will be held at The Hotel Vermont. Explore the relationship between Puirt-à-Beul (Gaelic mouth music) and traditional dance tunes from Scotland and Cape Breton. Gaelic songs and 18th century Irish harp tunes, lively jigs, reels, and strathspeys. Dominique's deep love of Gaelic music and culture brings this material to life through a combination of harp, song, and story for all who enjoy traditional music.
Dominique is a harper and singer who grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and now divides her time between New Hampshire and Cape Breton with frequent visits to Vermont for private lessons and occasional performances. This includes teaching with the YTV Touring Group and Fiddleheads. She has a passion for melody-driven dance music and responsive, rhythmic accompaniment, as well as for Gaelic songs, airs, and 18th century harp tunes.
A former Fulbright Scholar, a 2012 graduate of the University of Limerick, Dominique also holds a BA Honours in Scottish Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. She is a dedicated learner of Scottish Gaelic, a profound influence on her music which continues to shape her sense of rhythm and phrasing.
