For this exhibition at the Flynndog Project Space, Justin Lee Hoekstra will be creating a suite of site-specific paintings that integrate the accumulated evidence of the labor that is necessary to maintain the spaces that we and our art occupy in our daily lives. This set of seven new works is the continuation of a yearly series of paintings in which the artist eliminates all color from the process and utilizes only black and white paint in order to execute the work. The process utilized involves the application of layers of acrylic paint to canvas that is affixed to the wall surface with staples and then processed with an orbital sander. The resultant pictures/objects offer an opportunity for the public to experience the space in a new way while altering it in a minimal manner.
