Invitation – Gratitude Feast January 12, 4:00 pm at the Huntington Town Hall.
Greetings Friends and Neighbors,
The storm blows today on powerful Southeast winds, setting the leaf-bare Ash and Elms in the woods around the farm in motion. Lengthening days last week told of springtime, as the strengthening Sun softened open ground to slick and greasy mud. There is a new calf at the farm -- Timmy born to Tigger. Slow to find his way to his feet in his first hours, he has grown to full vigor on gallons of rich Jersey milk. We're milking his mother a couple of times a week, giving enough milk for tea and coffee and some for special dishes at the winter Feasts. The first Gratitude Feast of 2019 is less than 2 weeks away, and preparations are in motion. The musicians and callers are lined up for another dance upstairs after dinner.
About the Farm and the Feasts: Brush Brook Community Farm is composed of a small herd of cows and flock of sheep who graze through the backyard fields of Huntington Center as well as a group of engaged neighbors who tend to the animals. A larger circle of neighbors helps with the work of carefully gathering and preserving fruits and vegetables to be cooked and served, along with the meat, at monthly gifted meals offered at the Town Hall. There is no charge for these meals, called Gratitude Feasts. At our last Feast the hall was full and overflowing with some 120 neighbors of all ages and temperaments. We encourage you to pass the word along and to offer personal invitations, or rides, to neighbors who might appreciate this kind of meal and gathering.
