Aging Well in Peacham and the Peacham Library, in cooperation with the AARP Vermont Fraud Watch, will host a timely presentation: The Weapons of Fraud, on Tuesday, January 7th at 1:30 pm.   The ever growing number of scams and their
increased sophistication exposes the need for vigilance and constant education. This presentation provides information on avoiding the traps set by criminals and recognizing the tactics they employ.  The presentation by Elliott Greenblott,
Vermont Fraud Watch Network Coordinator and fraud columnist for the Caledonian Record, has been seen by thousands of New England residents.

According to Greenblott, "This is a constantly changing landscape. We see new scams targeting victims of all ages, from new-borns to ninety year olds"  The presentation addresses the ways in which this crime is perpetrated, telltale signs of criminal behavior, and both preventative and restorative steps. "Our program provides free information and resources including a national hotline to assist people who feel they may have become victims."

Greenblott was appointed Vermont Fraud Watch Network coordinator in the spring of 2015 by AARP Vermont and received the 2016 Ethel Percy Andrus Award, AARP's highest volunteer recognition, for his work in the program.  He was awarded recognition as volunteer of the year by GNAT-TV in Sunderland, Vermont in 2018. Prior to retirement, he was an award-winning classroom teacher and public school administrator for over 30 years.  He urges those who are concerned and want to do something to become active volunteers in the program.
