PUTNEY FIRE DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEER WITH A DISABILITY SPEAKS AT

INCLUSION CENTER

Brattleboro, January 2020 – On Friday, January 3, at 11:00 a.m., Rory, a volunteer with the Putney Fire Department for the past year, will speak about his learning disability at Inclusion Center.

Rory was diagnosed in early 2000/late 90s with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) inattentive type and dyslexia of which neither diagnoses lasted. Another diagnosis of Non-Verbal Learning Disorder was never confirmed. Rory will talk about his struggle in grade school through the high school years. He graduated from college after seven years with an associate degree in life science and liberal arts degree with a minor in environmental science and communication.

Rory will also talk about how he made the decision to join the Putney Fire Department and since joining has taken an EMT class and is working toward certification to become a firefighter in another year.

Rory says, "I have been told numerous times that it doesn't matter how long it takes me to learn something, what's important is dedication, showing up, doing the job and training."

Inclusion Center invites you to hear this inspiring story of an amazing young man and how one can accomplish anything with strength and determination.
