Monday, January 13 has been selected as the new date for a public meeting to discuss plans for a sidewalk and pedestrian bridge near the LaPlatte River Bridge at Shelburne Falls. The meeting will take place in the Pierson Library Community Room starting at 6:30 PM. There will be presentations about the project and will be set aside to address questions from the audience.
As many know, Shelburne's Comprehensive Plan emphasizes making the Town a safer and more inviting place for bicyclists and pedestrians. And, consistent with that vision, the Plan specifically calls for an improved connection between Shelburne village and neighborhoods along Irish Hill Road. A blueprint for that improved connection is contained in a study prepared for the Town in 2012.
In 2018, Shelburne received a $579,000 grant from the Vermont Agency of Transportation to help pay for the improvements. The Town has hired an engineering firm—Stantec—to create detailed plans and help move the project to completion. The public meeting will be an opportunity to learn more and to share any concerns you might have. If you are interested in the project or in walking/bicycling issues more generally, we hope you will attend.
Thanks.
