Poetry of Place Workshop at the Varnum
The Varnum Memorial Library in Jeffersonville is fortunate to have Tamra J. Higgins lead a poetry-writing workshop whose title, Poetry of Place, resonates with all of us. Tamra has been a resident of Jeffersonville for almost 28 years and is President of the Poetry Society of Vermont.A professional, she is Founder and Co-President of Sundog Poetry Center, Inc. and has poems published in numerous regional and national publications.
Tamra asks, "Do you have a favorite place?" Or," how about a place that you hope you will never see again?" This workshop, Poetry of Place, will help us convey feelings and emotion related to a particular place or time. These subjects can include the love of the outdoors, an awe of the past, the loneliness of loss, or the grief of tragedy. Tamra will bring us on an exploration of poems that lead us through the concrete description of place and discuss how the expression of emotions is accomplished through that description.
This workshop requires no previous experience. New poets and seasoned writers will all find something to gain. For this workshop, bring a photo (old or new) or an image in your mind that you would like to explore. The Poetry of Place workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 8 from 6:30-8:30 at the Varnum Memorial Library. This workshop is Free and the public is welcome.
