— Midwinter's Eve —
Ethan Allen and family, as Deists, did not likely celebrate Christmas. Christmas celebrations grew in New England in the 19th century; however, certain winter traditions did occur in towns across 18th century Vermont around midwinter. Join us as we share winter traditions enjoyed around the modern holiday season in Colonial America. In our 18th century tavern, take part in English folk dances and enjoy live music and games similar to what was found in midwinter social celebrations.
Then come calling on the Allen family and take a lantern-lit tour of the historical Ethan Allen House. Experience a midwinter's visit with treats and beverages based on historical recipes and prepared on the hearth. Talk with our living historians and experience the lives of frontier Vermonters. Bundle up and learn with us!
No charge for admission, but donations to support the Ethan Allen Homestead are appreciated.
