Given the soggy forecast for Saturday, I postponing until Sunday the hike in the property that the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife is planning to purchase at the end of Lottery Road in Shrewsbury. We'll be carpooling at the Shrewsbury Meeting house parking lot at 9.30am. The hike is sponsored by the Green Mountain Club, but anyone is free to join if they wish. The full loop is about 4 miles but, if they want to shorten the walk, folks can cut that distance approximately in half by heading up Gaynor Road from the Clarendon Shelter. Hiking boots recommended – may be muddy after Saturday's rain. Dogs welcome if they are under control whether by voice or leash; Leave No Trace applies. Hike details below.
December 15, Sunday, 9:00 a.m. Rutland or 9:30 a.m. at Shrewsbury Meeting House parking lot
Lottery Road Wildlife Corridor Loop, Shrewsbury Sandy Bragg 492-2143
The Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife is planning to conserve a 500+ acre property in Shrewsbury as a new Wildlife Management Area. We'll hike on a wood road that follows a north/south ridge on the property, starting from the foundations of a former barn of the Shrewsbury Town Poor Farm, connecting to the LT/AT near Clarendon Shelter, then head north on the LT/AT to Lottery Road, concluding with a road walk back to our starting point. Moderate, approximately 4 miles.
