The Spice on Snow Winter Music Festival is a four-day celebration of roots and folk music which brings to Montpelier outstanding Cajun and Old-Time musicians from Louisiana and Southern Appalachia, together with premier touring folk musicians and regional performers. There are concerts, dances, workshops, family events, jam sessions and free performances city-wide in Montpelier, VT. One of the festival's headlining events is the Saturday evening concert featuring Molsky's Mountain Drifters, and the Young Tradition Youth Commission Ensemble.

Molsky's Mountain Drifters features Bruce Molsky, a Grammy-nominated artist on fiddle, banjo, guitar and song. Molsky is also Berklee College of Music's Visiting Scholar in the American Roots Program. He is joined by Allison de Groot on banjo, who combines wide ranging virtuosity and passion for old-time music, and Boston-based Stash Wyslouch, who is one of bluegrass's great young genre-bending pioneers.

The Young Tradition Youth Commission Ensemble is one of 30 programs managed by Young Tradition Vermont. Each year a member of the Young Tradition Touring Group is selected for the YTV commission for the year, to create a small ensemble and a program of original compositions/arrangements with mentors/master artists of their choosing. Romy Munkres is the artist selected for 2019/2020, and she has created an ensemble that includes her brother Ben Munkres and musician friends Abi Sandy, Hadley Stockwell and Fern O'Donnell. Romy has been a winner at the Young Tradition Vermont annual contest, is an artist leader for the Touring Group, and has performed with them and her family band throughout VT as well as with the Touring Group in Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland, Japan, and metro New York/New Jersey.
