Zoning Regulations and Town Growth - Open Forum

As you may be aware, the town of Ferrisburgh is in the process of revising its zoning by-laws and subdivision regulations. The Land Use Regulation Update Committee (LURUC) has been working on this for about a year and one of the most difficult aspects is deciding whether and how we might change our zoning regs to facilitate the development of housing options that are attractive in today's housing market. The potential closing of the Ferrisburgh Central School has added to the impetus on this.

We learned yesterday that Ferrisburgh has received a Municipal Planning Grant - titled "Visualizing Density Study" - so we can bring in outside zoning expertise and do effective outreach about this so we can come up with revised zoning regulations that work for our community.

At its meeting last night, the LURUC decided to devote our next meeting to having an open discussion about the role of zoning regulations in town growth. That meeting is next Wednesday, December 11th, at 5:30 pm in the town office building, 3279 Route 7. This will be an opportunity to hear and express concerns and offer suggestions.
