First Saturday Montpelier Contra Dance!

Past event
Dec 7, 2019, 8 to 11 PM

Dec. 7th will feature the next Montpelier Contra Dance at the Capital City Grange Hall, with Dugan Murphy calling great dances and excellent live music by The Moving Violations!

Dugan will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, and will teach and call enjoyable, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. If you are new to this type of dancing, or would like a refresher on the basics, come on over for the intro session.

Dugan calls dances around the country, and at the dances he co-organizes in Portland ME. Dugan will be calling this evening's dances using the Larks & Ravens role terms.

The Moving Violations blends their unique sounds from Celtic, Eastern European, Swedish, Klezmer and Classic traditions—but they always swing. Featuring twin fiddles on many tunes, plus driving piano, and sometimes hand percussion and mandolin, they love to play for good dancing.

Join us beforehand for a tasty potluck dinner from 6:00 to 7:00 at the Grange Hall. Share your favorite dish, or bring something simple, and enjoy good food and friendly people.

Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, $5 for kids & low-income, $15 from "Dance Supporters"! This dance is part of the year-round series that has been at the Grange Hall since 1983.
