Dance away Thanksgiving stuffing with Wild Asparagus!
This Saturday night, Nov 30, at the Montpelier Contra Dance, George Marshall and Wild Asparagus will give you one of best excuses to get out of the house.
George Marshall will teach and call all the dances, and will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM. George has been calling dances with Wild Asparagus since helping to found the band in 1982. He'll help us all have a great time dancing together from 8:00 to 11:00. Come and join us for the intro session if you haven't done this kind of dancing before, or if you just want a "refresher".
This band was one of the pioneers in bringing new rhythms and sounds into traditional contra dance music, extending its repertoire and making it even more fun. They've continued as one of the most popular bands, playing at their own monthly dance in Greenfield, MA, touring and leading dances around the US, Canada, England, even the Virgin Islands with their "Tropical Dance Vacation". You can dance to them without traveling so far! The band includes George on concertina & bodhran, Ann Percival on piano & guitar, David Cantini on flutes, whistles and the Breton bombard, Becky Tracy on fiddle, and one or more others from their circle of musical friends.
George will be using "Larks and Ravens" role terms, for calling this dance.
Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along too!
