Dance Away Thanksgiving Stuffing with Wild Asparagus!

Past event
Nov 30, 2019, 7:30 to 11 PM

Saturday evening at the Montpelier Contra Dance, George Marshall and Wild Asparagus will give you one of the best excuses to get out of the house. Bring your relatives--or escape them--and join us for the dance at the Capital City Grange Hall!

George will teach and call all the dances, and will lead the "newcomer's session" at about 7:45. He has been calling and playing with the band since helping to found it in 1982. He will help us all have a good time, with his smooth teaching and relaxed, timely calling, all evening.

Come join us for the intro session if you haven't done this kind of dancing before, or if you want a "refresher". We always welcome new folks.

This band was one of the pioneers in bringing new sounds into Contra dance music. They fuse rhythms, melodies and harmonies from Latin, jazz and other roots with the Celtic strong and music that was the New England tradition, making a potent mix. They've continued as one of the most popular dance bands, playing around the country and in the Virgin Islands with their "Tropical Dance Vacations". You won't have to travel that far to enjoy dancing with them.

The music is provided by George on concertina and bodhran, Ann Percival on piano and guitar, David Cantieni on flutes, whistles and the Breton bombard, Becky Tracy on fiddle, and likely an excellent bass player too.

George will be using "Larks and Ravens" non-gendered role terms for this dance.

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., about 1mile south of Montpelier. Bring clean, soft-soled shoes or clean your outdoor shoes with our tools, to protect our floor. Admission is $10 for adults, $5for kids or low income folks, $15 for "Dance Supporters". This dance is part of the year-round series at the Grange Hall.
