Hello all,
Warm greetings to you! I am writing to let you know that on Monday December 9, from 6 - 8pm, Supriya Shanti, Lynne Davis and Marilyn Marks will be facilitating a community grief circle at the Brooks Memorial Library, called Entering the Healing Ground: from Grief to Gratitude.
We are living in unprecedented, challenging times. The losses are great and come in many forms: loss of a beloved one, Earth grief, opioid deaths, illness, forest fires, divorce, mass shootings, loss of a sense of safety in the world...Sharing, poetry, music, and ritual will serve as the container as we name and witness grief and loss within a circle of community.
This offering draws upon Francis Weller's work and his books, The Wild Edge of Sorrow and The Threshold Between Loss and Revelation. It's not intended as a "grief processing" group per se (those groups will be coming later); grief and gratitude will be explored as interweaving threads of a healing journey, based on Weller's Five Gates of Grief.
About the facilitators: Supriya Shanti LICSW is a psychotherapist and director of Bereavement Services at Bayada Hospice. Lynne Davis LMHC is a marriage and family therapist, as well as a music thanatologist, playing the harp on oncology and pediatric units, and accompanying hospice patients through the dying process. Marilyn Marks LICSW is a psychotherapist specializing in trauma, grief, and loss. She has attended several of Francis Weller's sacred grief retreats and has been trained by Francis and his partner Judith to facilitate grief ritual.
This event is open to all, and free of charge. Thank you and blessings to all.
