A number of congregations in northeast Franklin County are jointly planning a Community Thanksgiving Service to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. at Richford United Methodist Church, 86 River Road.
The public is invited to attend the service, which will include traditional Thanksgiving hymns such as "We gather together" and "Come, ye thankful people, come." Scriptures have been chosen to focus on the theme of giving thanks, and there will be special music and prayers of gratitude to God for the blessings of life. Pastor Lyle Willey of Abundant Life Fellowship in Enosburg Falls will be the preacher.
An offering will be taken to benefit Turning Point of Franklin County, a community center for people in recovery from alcohol and substance abuse and addiction, a growing crisis in the county as well as nationwide. Located in St. Albans, Vermont, Turning Point provides a safe environment where peer support is offered at no cost on as basis of non-denominational spiritual healing and compassion.
Attendees at the service are also encouraged to bring canned and boxed goods for the Enosburg Food Shelf, the Richford Food Shelf, and the Montgomery Food Pantry.
Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.
Congregations participating in the service include: Enosburg-Richford United Methodist Charge, with Pastor Donavee Copenhaver; Franklin United Church and East Franklin Union Church, with Pastors Jason McConnell and Vaughn Edel; Richford First Baptist Church, with Pastor Tim Stetson; Abundant Life Fellowship, with Pastors Lyle Willey and Jaye Lundborg; Lighthouse Assembly of God, with Pastor Pat Hoadley; St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, with Pastor Titus Presler; Montgomery United Methodist Church, with Pastor Bonnie Hovermann; and the six area Roman Catholic congregations: St. John the Baptist in Enosburg, All Saints' in Richford, St. Anthony's in Sheldon Springs, St. Mary's in Franklin, St. Isidore's in Montgomery, and Our Lady of Lourdes in East Berkshire, with Pastor Stan Deresienski and Parochial Vicar Daniel Jordan.
