Wait, didn't we already talk about this? Yep. The Planning Commission (PC) sought community input in the fall of 2018, and then held a formal public hearing on March 27, 2019. Lots of you spoke up about the Official Map, especially about whether to continue to plan for community space on an undeveloped parcel on Commerce Street, where a Hannaford supermarket is proposed. The PC forwarded the revised proposal to the Select Board in June after spending a couple months discussing the feedback and making changes. Now it's the Select Board's turn. They have to hold a public hearing before taking action.
So what about that controversial element on the Official Map? The proposal is a compromise. It revises the existing map so that instead of the entire parcel, only the eastern half is identified as a location for a future community facility. This leaves the most developable portions of this property available for private development. More details in the community facility description that accompanies the map. The PC was not unanimous about this compromise (see 4/24/19 meeting minutes), and the Select Board was split 3-2 (see 10/7/19 meeting minutes), but a majority of both boards recommended it.
Questions? Email me. Feedback? Attend the public hearing on December 4, or email me by 4pm on that date, and I'll make sure the Select Board receives your comments.
