V is the Valley: A Concert-Conversation with the Folk Songs of Vermont

Songcatcher Helen Hartness Flanders amassed a collection of over 4,000 field recordings as part of her efforts to preserve the folk music cultures of New England in the mid-20th century. These recordings of traditional ballads, tunes and stories capture many facets of the soul of her home state of Vermont, and the old songs still have much to tell us today. I've picked a dozen of my favorite gems from the collection and added my own guitar and classically-trained bass voice to the mix for a program that has a little something for everyone: Robbers and warriors, local history and culture clashes, cherry pies and fried eels, devils and spirituals, lovers and lumberjacks...

I'll be sharing the songs at Bundle @ 51 Main in downtown Middlebury on Tuesday Nov 19th from noon to 1:30pm, $5 suggested donation at the door. Feel free to bring a lunch, and stop by for as long as you can stay. I look forward to sharing the conversation with you!
