Preview of November 18 Council Meeting

Past event
Nov 18, 2019, 7 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will hold its second of two meetings in the month of November. We will begin our meeting at 7pm with resolution sponsored by the full Council recognizing our Deputy Fire Chief, Aaron Collette for completing the Executive Fire Officer Program. We will then have a communication requesting support for the Burlington Low-Barrier Shelter Soup Drive. This is important work to support helping with hot meals during the coldest months of the year to some of our community's most vulnerable.

On our deliberative agenda:

• The Mayor will be requesting the Council to confirm Kara Alnasrawi as the next Executive Director of the Church Street Marketplace.

• There was a communication from CEDO and the Office of Permitting and Inspections that includes a review and recommendations going forward regarding renter protections.

• The Council created a Special Committee to Review Policing Policies. Due to a resignation, we have an opening on the committee to fill. We will also be getting an update on the progress the committee is making.

• We had the site visit to the Shelburne Street rotary in late October and took testimony at that time. We must now approve the findings, conclusions of law and order regarding necessity of condemning a small parcel of land to proceed with the process of constructing the roundabout.

• Our last item is a resolution regarding the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) 1-5 Year System. All rental properties must have a CoC in order to rent their property. Several years ago, the 1-5 Year System was created as a tool to reward landlords who met our standards and create greater oversight for those who do not. All rental properties have gone through the new process and we are now in a position to make the findings easily accessible to the community. 60% of our community rents. This tool is an unbiased method to knowing a property owner's history of how well they meet our housing standards.
