Hot Contra Dancing for a Chilly Saturday Night

Past event
Nov 16, 2019, 8 to 11 PM

The Montpelier Contra Dance has been held at the Capital City Grange Hall since 1983, according to those who were there. Join us this Saturday for another great dance.

This week, Adina Gordon will teach and call all the dances, and will be leading the newcomers session at about 7:45 PM. Adina has been a favorite caller at our dances for at least a dozen years. Her motto is "as far as dancing goes, if you're smiling and laughing, you're doing it right." She'll help us all have a great time dancing together from 8:00 to 11:00. Come and join us for the intro session at 7:45 if you haven't done this kind of dancing before, or if you just want a refresher.

Music for this evening will be by Russet Trio, an excellent band from the Hudson Valley area. Including Aldo Lavaggi on fiddle, Peter Water Madsen on guitar, and Stuart Kenney on upright bass and banjo, this band describes themselves as "more than a traditional string band." Bringing influences from around the world, they will create a propulsive sound that will get you dancing.

Adina will be using Gents and Ladies role terms for calling this dance.

Tips for dancers: Bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England," or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along too!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, $5 for kids & low-income, $15 for dance supporters. This dance is part of the year-round series at the Grange Hall.
