The Hitching Post Vermont is excited to announce the launch of The Hitching Post: Phase 2, this Saturday, November 16th, 2019 from 10 AM - 11:30 AM (rain or shine or snow)!
Come celebrate with all the riders, drivers, hard work and enthusiasm that has come out of the last few months as well as the installation of four new Hitching Posts: The Hunger Mountain Co-op, Montpelier; Red Hen Baking and downtown Putnamville, Middlesex; and Depot Square, Northfield. We are very excited to see these new towns/businesses taking leadership roles and expanding The Hitching Post Network!
The event will consist of each town meeting at their own Hitching Post then Coffee-Pooling to the Hunger Mountain Co-op Hitching Post Hub! We will all convene there where we can circle, meet one another, answer questions, and generally be merry. Feel free to join us for any or all of the event. Coffee and treats will be served. :-)
For those who have no idea what we're talking about, here's a quick introduction:
The Hitching Post is what we call Community Supported Transportation, building resilient community by connecting neighbors driving around Vermont. It is a mash-up of car-pooling, ride-sharing, hitch-hiking, and resilient community. The key is that it utilizes the huge and relatively untapped resource of single-occupied vehicles in Vermont. By using this service, participants are having fun, saving money, reducing their carbon footprint, meeting their neighbors, and supporting local business!
Back in July, the Post Office Cafe, Worcester and Birchgrove Baking, Montpelier helped pioneer this initiative, as well as VTrans and the Montpelier Transportation Infrastructure Committee. It's becoming a reality that Vermont can lead the way with imaginative alternatives to single-occupied vehicles!
That's enough for now, but in the meantime check out The Hitching Post website (https://www.thehitchingpost.org/) that clearly spells out the process and is where announcements are made, as well as our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/thehitchingpostvt/) where you can meet others, share stories, and schedule rides. We welcome positive and constructive feedback at phoenix@thehitchingpost.org
Spread the word and we'll keep you posted about more details later in the week!
