"Should the Democratic Party Have a Centrist or Left-wing Future?"
A Hamilton Forum Dialogue with
William Galston of the Wall Street Journal and Brookings Institution
& Michael Kazin of Georgetown University and Dissent Magazine
Weds., Nov. 6, 4:30, Dana Auditorium, Middlebury College
This event brings together two leading public intellectuals for a dialogue -- with audience Q & A -- about the ideas and objectives that should guide the Democratic Party on the eve of a consequential primary season. A veteran of the Clinton White House and six Democratic presidential campaigns, Mr. Galston is a distinguished political theorist long associated with the "centrist" wing of the Democratic Party -- or what were once called the "New Democrats." Mr. Kazin is a prolific historian of U.S. politics and social movements. He serves as editor of Dissent, a leading magazine of the American Left since 1954, and is currently writing a new history of the Democratic Party. He is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
