Osher Talk Nov. 6

On November 6th the Lamoille Valley Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will have their last presentation of the Fall 2019 Semester. Murder, Mystery, and Indigenous Mobility in 19th Century Vermont, with speaker Jill Mudgett, will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Commodores Inn, 823 South Main Street, Route 100 Stowe VT. Admission is $5. for non-members and coffee/ refreshments will immediately follow the presentation.

Jill Mudgett is a cultural historian with an interest in the people and landscapes of northern New England. She is interested in public history and regularly presents her work to local groups.

This presentation tells the story of an Indigenous man from southern New England who came to central Vermont during the late 19th century and was the victim of a murder. The story recreates community connections in a rural Vermont hill town. It is a story about poverty, racism, disability, and gendered violence against women, but is also a story about Indigenous movement and choice despite great obstacles.
