Joyful, Moving Choral Music Nov. 23

Past event
Nov 23, 2019, 7:30 to 9:30 PM

Hello Neighbors,

The Burlington Choral Society invites you to our fall concert. We'll present Baltic Heartbeat: Music from Lithuania, singing most of the pieces in Lithuanian. A joyful Magnificat, festive traditional pieces and moving works full of natural images are on the program. In recent years, you may have been with us as we performed concerts featuring music of Estonia and Latvia. This next concert will complete our musical tour of the three Baltic nations that are rich in song.

Singing for our friends and neighbors is a great joy to all 64 of us in the chorus, and I hope you'll be at College Street Congregational Church in Burlington on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. for the experience.

The Lithuanian national anthem begins and ends the program, with an array of traditional and folk songs in between. Honoring the legacy of Lithuanian Jews who began settled in Vermont, the concert includes a poignant Yiddish ballad as well.

Our artistic director, Richard Riley, says, "Lithuania's distinctive choral style features 'music of the people,' as political turmoil has greatly influenced how Lithuanian music is disseminated and heard internationally. There's rich repertoire for the church, but equally interesting and distinctive are pieces from folk traditions."

Tickets are available at the FlynnTix Box Office, www.flynntix.org and (802) 86-FLYNN.

Prices are $25 for adults and $20 for students.

We'd be delighted to see you in the audience.
