The next Montpelier Contra dance will be on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, with Nils Fredland calling great dances and excellent live music by the band Polaris!
Nils will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, and will teach and call enjoyable, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. If you are new to this type of dancing, or would like a refresher on the basics, come on over for the intro session.
Nils has been calling for almost 20 years; he's a great teacher for dancers, and may well join in with the band on his trombone. Nils will be calling this evening's dances using the Larks & Ravens role terms.
Polaris is one of the hottest young bands, featuring the twin fiddles of Marta Bartholomew and Rose Jackson, plus Jesse Ballon accordion, guitar, hammered dulcimer and feet, and Sam Zakon-Anderson on piano. You can see and hear them on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lOcVpUjheA, but better to hear them live...and dance!
Join us beforehand for a tasty potluck dinner from 6:00 to 7:00 at the Grange Hall. Share your favorite dish, or bring something simple, and enjoy good food and friendly people.
Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along!
