Preview of Oct. 28 Council Meeting

Past event
Oct 28, 2019, 7 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will hold its second of two meetings in the month of October.

We will begin our meeting at 6pm with a site visit to the Shelburne Street rotary. As I've mentioned in past blue newsletters, we are working toward construction of the roundabout. Part of that process is the need to work with adjacent property owners to negotiate the taking of some land to accommodate the roundabout. If we have not reached an agreement with a property owner, we must go through another process that includes a site visit and hearing. The Council will do the site visit from 6 to 7pm.

We will begin our meeting in Contois Auditorium at 7pm with chorus presentation by residents from the Ethan Allen Residence. We will then have a resolution from the full council in support of the Burlington High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team and their #EqualPay initiative.

Following an indoor entertainment permit, a presentation on Burlington Wildways, a report from the Church Street Marketplace, the required hearings on the Shelburne Street roundabout, and a resolution regarding electrification of heat and air conditioning systems in new construction, we have two main items on our deliberative agenda:

• The highlight of Monday's deliberative agenda will be a communication from the Brookfield team on the CityPlace project. Unlike past communications, the Brookfield team will be coming to the Council and the community with a substantive update that we have been told will include plans, broad benchmarks and some encouraging signs about the project.

• We have a number of ordinances regarding signage, a proposed change in the appointment of the City's Zoning Administrative Officer, and changes to our Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) ordinance. The IZ changes are regarding parking requirements which will reduce the amount of parking required reduced by a percentage equal to the required percentage of inclusionary units and a change to off campus institutional student housing which will require that the IZ requirements will apply to institutions' off campus housing that is used exclusively by students.

Please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come to a Council meeting and speak on any topic you wish during public forum. This begins at a time certain of 7:30pm at every Council meeting. You may access the Council agenda at http://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public Please note that all Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone. Please go to youtube and type in "Burlington City Council meetings" and the live stream will come up.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

My best,
Karen
