Thinking Like a Forest is a deep ecological way of understanding our common journey with beings in the wild. What thoughts swirl through the veins of the ancient maples that line the dirt roads of my town of Peacham, Vermont? What stories are shared between the roots and delicate underground systems of these stalwart sentinels? How do they persevere with severed limbs and gaping wounds? I feel a kinship with these trees. I'm already a vertical creature with limbs, a trunk and outstretched arms. I've been wounded, and pierced. I've felt the warmth of the sun and tried to touch the stars. I too have sent forth children into the wide, wide world. - Cecelia Kane
