*Chasing Seeds- the Rediscovery and Revival of Indigenous Vermont Agriculture, will be presented October 28th, 5:30-7pm at the Jericho Community Center

For over a thousand years, the Vermont Abenaki people have raised corn, beans, squash, sunflowers and other crops in semi-permanent raised field systems, and nurtured them with prayer, fish fertilizer and ceremonies of Sun, Rain and Harvest. Fred Wiseman of the Abenaki tribe will discuss the Seeds of Renewal project, a grass-roots Abenaki program to find, propagate plant and harvest these ancestral Vermont crops in traditional polycropping agricultural gardens. He will also discuss other aspects of the revival of the indigenous food system including agricultural ritual cuisine and seed saving.
