Songwriting Series

Songwriting- is it an art or a science? Perhaps both. If you are a musician, a singer-songwriter or perhaps a poet who would like to put poetry to music, a series of songwriting workshops begin in October, led by the McHughs of Waterbury. Pat and Alison McHugh have been making music together for two and a half decades and have a passion for inspiring songwriters and aspiring songwriters to bring forth their unique talents and have a safe space to practice and hone their skills.
Monday evening, October 28th (and then again November 17th) from 6-8 pm in the Waterbury Library's SAL room, songwriters of all abilities are welcome to share in songwriting skills and ideas. Prior experience is not a prerequisite. Basic elements of songwriting will be covered, along with fun, practical group exercises that will benefit everyone's skillset. Topics may include but are not limited to idea development, song structure, lyrical prosody, memorable melodies, basics of co-writing, how to give feedback and more. If you have a song to share, please bring a recording or feel free to bring your instrument or voice or both. A keyboard and microphone will be available if needed.

Pat and Alison currently facilitate a bi-monthly Songwriting Collaborative in Burlington. Pat is a drummer, guitarist, producer and sound technician. Alison has been singing, playing the piano and writing songs for 25 years and works in alumni relations for a wilderness program.

Call 244-7036 for more info and to register for the either or both of the workshops.
