We will be gathering at the Waterbury Public Library on Tuesday, 6:30-7:30. We will focus on Chapter 5 of Ijeoma Oluo's book _So You Want to Talk About Race_.
In this chapter, titled "What is intersectionality and why do I need it?," Oluo notes that "Each of us has a myriad of identities - our gender, class, race, sexuality, and so much more - that inform our experiences in life and our interactions with the world. ...These privileges and oppressions do not exist in a vacuum, however, and can combine with each other, compound each other, mitigate each other, and contradict each other" (p. 75).
Each month we bring our identities, experiences, humility, and commitment to learning as we discuss issues of race and equity. Please consider joining us, whether you've read the chapter or not.
