Rockabilly Hall of Fame recording artist Marty Wendell will be performing as the final show in the 2019 Wardsboro Curtain Call Music Series at Wardsboro Town Hall on Saturday, October 19.
Musically weaned on an old Philco radio, singer-songwriter Marty Wendell grew up whetting an appetite for rockabilly, folk, country and pop to blues and gospel. Influenced by Sun Records artists, Wendell entered a church talent show where he sang in front of a live audience for the first time. Over half a century later, he continues to enjoy performing for enthusiastic audiences. He has shared the stage with some of the greatest artists in early rock and country music to R&B and folk including Arlo Guthrie, Faron Young, Hank Thompson, Lacy J. Dalton, Sonny James, The Platters, Carl Perkins to name a few ... And Johnny Cash. In 2002 Marty recorded at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, TN where Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Elvis all did their first recordings.
Jarith Martin on NYSMUSIC.com writes of Marty's newest album, " Drawing from a rich and storied career, nearly sixty years in the making, Wendell returns triumphantly in 2019 with "Rock and Roll Days: A Celebration of Sun Records" – a stalwart tribute to the early days of rock, and ultimately, a retrospective on the music that shaped his own career." This album includes a rare Johnny Cash recording not previously available and is in the Best Americana album category for this year's Grammy Awards.
"Marty Wendell has been rockin' a good long time. And yet he approaches each new project with wide-eyed, youthful enthusiasm. The tracks on this CD (Marty's latest album, "Rock & Roll Days") boil with intensity, helping us rediscover treasured classics" - Chris Wienk, WEXT FM.
