Ski and Snowboard Entrepreneurs Tell All; What It Takes to Create A Winter Sports Product

Thursday, October 10th - 6:30 pm
Ever since Vermonters started strapping boards to their feet in the early 1900's, Vermont has had a huge global impact on the development of new and innovative ski and snowboarding products, from the development, invention, manufacture and distribution of skis and snowboards, boots, bindings, apparel, waxes and specialized accessories.

Vermont continues to be rich with snowsports entrepreneurs and on Thursday, October 10th at 6:30 pm, as part of Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum's Red Bench Series, we'll be gathering a group of business founders to discuss what drove them to start their ski or snowboard related businesses, and the successes and challenges they've faced along the way.

Find out why Bill Doble, co-founder of Dodge Boots decided to build the world's only carbon composite alpine ski boots in Essex and chose a direct to consumer sales model, and how Josh Reid, co-founded Rome Snowboards in 2001 and built a global brand based in Waterbury before selling it in 2018. Learn how a non-Newtonian polymer and an appreciation for simplified engineering inspiredCyrus Schenck to launch RENOUN Skis in Burlington. Corinne Prevot will recount how she first made Skida hats for her Burke Mountain Academy teammates, how she's built her Burlington based company and about her commitment to local production. There will be plenty of time for questions from the audience.

The evening's moderator will be Cairn Cross,co-founder of FreshTracks Capital, and a lecturer at the UVM Grossman School of Business where he teaches Financing Sustainable Innovation for the Sustainable Innovation MBA program. In the early 1980s, prior to his financial career he "worked" in the ski industry for the U.S. Ski Association as well as in several ski area operational roles.

The Museum's monthly Red Bench Series focuses on topics currently relevant to skiing and snowboarding.

Doors to the Museum will open at 6:00 and guests are invited to enjoy the exhibits and socialize. The discussion begins at 6:30. Craft beer provided by series sponsor Von Trapp Brewing, wine and cider will be available. A $10 entry donation helps support the museum's mission to "Collect, Preserve and Celebrate Vermont's Skiing and Snowboarding Heritage". Additional sponsors include Sisler Builders,Vermont Ski + Ride and Firetower Marketing.
