The Green Mountain Weavers and Spinners Guild will present "Spindle Spinning Around the World" at their meeting on Wednesday, October 16th. The meeting will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Summer St., North Adams (next to the Post Office) at 7:00 p.m.
Spindle spinning, the earliest form of spinning yarn and thread, dates back thousands of years, and continues to this day. The speakers will explore ancient and historical spindle spinning by the Vikings, the Navajo people of the Southwest, plus Peru, the Mediterranean, Egypt, and Africa.
There will be many spindles and other items on display, and spindle spinning will be demonstrated on spindles of different styles. Attendees are also invited to try spindle spinning. The talk and demonstration are free and open to the public.
