Starry Night

Past event
Oct 11, 2019, 7 to 9 PM

If the night sky intrigues you come to the Dac Rowe Field on Friday evening, October 11th for night sky viewing from 7 to 9 pm with the Waterbury Library and the Vermont Astronomical Society. There will be plenty of telescopes on hand to view Jupiter and its four so-called Galilean moons (lo, Europa, Calisto and Ganymede), Saturn with its gorgeous rings and it's relatively large moon Titan, (and perhaps a few of Saturn's fainter moons depending on the steadiness of the air), and our waxing gibbous moon with its many craters and mountains. Early in the evening from 7:00 to 7:30 pm, the Great Red Spot on Jupiter is visible, as well as the shadow of Ganymede on Jupiter's cloud tops (7:20 to 8 pm.) There are double stars to behold as well. All this is weather dependent. In case of rain or a cloudy evening, the event will be held the following evening, October 12th at the same time, 7-9 pm. Call the library at 244-7036 by 5 pm for more info and if the weather if "iffy".
