Join us for Party Bard! Saturday, October 12 - 7:00pm, Whittemore Theater
Talk and Discussion by Molly Booth '14, Jack Rossiter-Munley '12, and T. Wilson, faculty emeritus
In Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, who wouldn't relate to the social anxiety of Octavius Caesar not enjoying himself at a raucous party? Which Shakespeare mother stopped an army of men in their tracks and brought them to their knees with her words? What does Henry V's famous battle-rousing monologue have in common with Arrested Development? All this, and more, is revealed in Party Bard, the podcast launched by Shakespeare uber-nerds Molly Booth and Jack Rossiter-Munley. Molly and Jack like to talk about the Bard, a lot, and they are bringing their party to listeners around the world every other Wednesday. Learn more about their podcast and hear from the man that drove them to do it in this informal talk and discussion.
While you are here, check out the opening of Ordinary Mouths Made to Sing exhibit by artist Fay Kuin the Drury Gallery in Whittemore.
Fay Ku is the winner of the Marlboro College galleries' spring 2019 open call, juried by Marlboro College students, resulting in this unusual exhibit in Drury Gallery from October 12 to November 15, with an opening reception on October 12. The Taiwan-born, New York City–based artist's work connects with past and present cultural histories, and her exhibit will feature recent mixed-media drawings on mylar informed by Chinese folklore told to her as a child growing up in the US Midwest. "Ordinary Mouths Made to Sing" draws its title from the poem "Notes on Longing," by Tina Chang. Recalling East Asian paintings where figures are isolated against untouched paper or silk, Ku's drawings of figures in imagined environments speak to how ancient folklore can shape the way we see ourselves in the present. Fay Ku has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Honolulu Museum of Art, New Britain Museum of American Art, and Snite Museum of Art, in South Bend, Indiana. She holds both an MFA in studio art and an MS in art history from Pratt Institute. this exhibit will be installed until November 15th.
