Hello Neighbors!
The University of Vermont Dressage Team is hosting our annual home show this coming Saturday and Sunday (the 12th and 13th) and you're invited! The show runs from 8am to 5pm both days and is a come-and-go-as-you-like kind of event. Free, open to all ages, no personal animals allowed. The event is mostly outdoors.
What is Dressage anyway? Well it's a horse sport in which riders take their horse through an assigned series of movements in order to demonstrate good training, balance, and obedience. Think of it as "horse ballet". UVM competes in an Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) league along with three other schools in the region. The thing that makes IDA different from a traditional horse show is that the riders do not travel with their equine partners! The host school provides the horses which makes the competition that much more interesting. Riders draw a horse, have 10 minutes to warm up, then ride their test for the judge!
UVM will be hosting a double header this year with visiting teams from UMASS Amherst, Mt Holyoke College, and UCONN.
It is bound to be a fun time and the team loves to have support from the community. Whether you are a rider yourself, have never touched a horse before, or are just looking for something to do this weekend, we'd love to see you there! The event is held at the UVM student-run Co-op barn located at 500 Spear Street in South Burlington. Free parking is available at the barn!
