Time to Share the Warmth with Mettawee Community School Clothing Drive
Here are three signs of autumn in Pawlet and Rupert: colorful leaves on the mountains, crisp temperatures in the air, and the Mettawee Community School (MCS) Clothing Drive. This year's annual Share the Warmth community action for residents of all ages takes place at the school on the weekend of October 26-27.
Parents and families from Pawlet, Rupert and surrounding communities are asked to contribute clothing for children and adults. Garments topping the need list include: coats, boots, hats, sweaters, shirts and pants. The school also accepts summer and spring clothing and items for special occasions, such as appropriate for this time of year, Halloween costumes.
The Mettawee School clothing drive is a two-step process. First, items can be dropped off at the school, located 5788 VT 153 (near the intersection with VT 30) at the following times:
Thursday, October 24: 2:30 - 4:00 pm
Friday, October 25: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Once the donations are gathered and sorted they will be available to the public at no cost. Stop by the Mettawee School and get what you need on the following two days:
Saturday, October 26: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Sunday, October 27: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Mettawee School students take the Share the Warmth drive seriously, starting by going through their own closets. They also organize the clothing donated to the school and arrange the items for display in the gymnasium. Finally, on the distribution days, October 26 and 27, they contribute part of their weekend to help visitors find what they need. "Every single year, I'm proud to see how students, parents and local families all step up to help out," says MCS Principal, Brooke DeBonis.
MCS faculty member, Brooke Burnham, returns for another year to manage the school's annual clothing drive. "I never get tired of this," says Burnham. "It's heartwarming to see how all of our community comes together to help those in need."
