How & Why to Read a Graphic Novel
Wednesday, October 9, 7 pm
Many assumptions are made about graphic novels by readers, teachers, parents, and grandparents. Jon Mathewson will reveal some of the storytelling tactics used and dig into what distinguishes this medium from others. He has written critical essays on comics, and his interviews of comic creators have appeared online and in print.

This program is part of the Vermont Reads: One Book - One Community

The Vermont Reads 2019 selection is the graphic novel March: Book One. It is the first of a trilogy written by civil rights icon John Lewis, in collaboration with co-writer Andrew Aydin and award-winning graphic artist Nate Powell. This graphic memoir illustrates John Lewis' childhood in rural Alabama and his lifelong commitment to nonviolent protest in the pursuit of social justice. VT Humanities Council has given the Library 25 copies of March: Book One to circulate and re-circulate for the month of October.

The Library will also host an Inter-generational Book Discussion
