This event is not sponsored by the Windham Regional Woodlands Association, but it addresses a current topic that may be of interest to our membership. The event is co-sponsored by Vermont Land Trust, Vermont Coverts, Vermont Fish & Wildlife and Vermont Forest, Parks and Recreation.
Excessive deer browse can prevent normal regeneration in northern hardwood forests leaving only less desirable species. Encouraging hunting in your woodlands can be a great tool to help landowners who have too many deer munching their forest seedlings. However, having hunters on your property can be intimidating, particularly if you are not familiar with hunting or have had problems with hunters in the past.
Come learn the benefits of a good relationship between landowners and hunters, how to make sure it is a partnership that works for both, and how to manage hunter access. You will get an introduction to the Vermont's current deer management plans and to current hunting laws and regulations. Join other landowners and staff from Vermont Fish & Wildlife, Vermont Coverts and VLT for an evening discussion.
