at The Westminster West Library

Duane Leffel is visiting Vermont from Nashville, Tennessee and he has a story to tell:

· Would you take off on a cross country trip in an all-electric car not knowing where you could re-charge it? Well, I did.

· Do you know what sustainability is? i.e. why we should care about it? I didn't.

These are just two of the topics discussed in this intriguing adventure. The story recounts how eight strangers from around the world attempt to set four Guinness World Records on electric vehicles to prove they are reliable and viable. Using four different types (an electric car, motorcycle, scooter and bicycle), the group crossed the U.S. in the middle of the hot summer with no corporate funding and limited planning. During their grueling 44-day journey, they encountered numerous obstacles including weather, injuries, organization, finding power sources, communications and more. Yet, they achieved their goal, and thus became pioneers in electric vehicle travel-- coming away with amazing stories about people, places and sustainability accomplishments.

Join Duane Leffel, driver of the Nissan LEAF during the Ride The Future Tour, and take a behind-the-scenes journey across the U.S. with the Tour. With humor and candor, he will take you from Charleston, SC to San Francisco and share over 500 hundred color photos from the actual trip. Learn how he set a Guinness World Record, information about sustainability initiatives around the country, and how YOU can make a sustainability impact too.
