Next Tuesday, October 1, at 6:15 p.m., the Brattleboro Selectboard will look into proposals for a municipal fiber system. This is an exciting opportunity for the Town of Brattleboro to have control over its fiber system which would mean, among other things, net neutrality for residents. Chesterfield, New Hampshire already has a municipal fiber system in operation as do a few other towns in Massachusetts.
EMF Safety For Vermont promotes connecting fiber optic cable to every home, business and school. Fiber is more reliable, stable, secure and has a much larger bandwidth than wireless. It is also safer.
Details of this project are included in the link below which takes you to a September 23, 2019 memo from Assistant Town Manager, Patrick Moreland.

The report, which starts on page three, includes key options, considerations and questions for how the Town might pursue this project. It would be ideal if those who plan to attend this meeting could read this memo in advance.
Please come and bring others to the meeting in the Selectboard Meeting Room at 230 Main Street! The Selectboard always takes public testimony so a large response and show of support from residents for this project will make a big difference. If you can't make it to the meeting in person, you can still reach out to the Selectboard and let them know your thoughts. Selectboard contact information is included on this page:
