The 5th annual Granite City 5K Run/Walk for Veterans will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019.The event, with Presenting Sponsorship from the Community National Bank and Absolute Spill Response, is to celebrate the servicepeople in our armed forces and raise awareness of the many challenges veterans endure. This event is presented by the Sons of the American Legion Squadron #10 and Barre Elks Lodge #1535. Proceeds of this event will go to the Veterans' Place, Inc. in Northfield, in support of transitional housing and other services for our most vulnerable veterans.

Race participants can register online at https://legacy.imathlete.com/events/GC5k2019. Registration day of the event starts on November 2ndat 8:00 am in American Legion Post #10 on 320 North Main Street in Barre, Vermont. The start/finish line is location in the parking lot of Capstone Community Action on 20 Gable Place. 5k Run will start at 9:00am with the 5k walk to follow shortly after. The race route makes its way from Capstone, down the path by Enterprise Alley, across Metro Way, up Prospect Street to the Barre City Bike Path, which then reverses back to the start/finish line. Race participants will receive a long sleeve athletic shirt, pre- and post-race snacks, and medals will be given out to the top runner in several age brackets. A silent auction will be held throughout the duration of the event.
