As part of the ongoing Chelsea/Tunbridge Arts Walks, North Common Arts will be hosting the opening reception for Barre artist, Janet Van Fleet, in their main gallery, on Friday, Sept. 27th from 6pm-8pm in Chelsea.
Her solo-exhibition titled, Hanging Around, will feature Van Fleet's figures using found materials. Janet Van Fleet is a mixed-media artist who lives and works in Vermont. She is a founder of Studio Place Arts, a community center for the visual arts in Barre, Vermont, where she has her studio. Van Fleet's work often makes reference to political, environmental, and social issues.
Along with other bodies of work, Janet Van Fleet has been making figures using found materials for over twenty years. For this exhibit at North Common Arts, Van Fleet was inspired to create or repurpose many new beings, making this by far the largest grouping of this work that she has shown. She says she is "delighted that they will be hanging around in an environment where flesh-and-blood people are also hanging around, enjoying each other's company, good food, and some art".
This month's Art Walk at SafeArt will feature an exhibit and photographs from the youth mural project we are facilitating at The Basement Teen Center in Montpelier. We'll also be offering tarot readings and light refreshments.
Before heading on down Route 110 to Chelsea Village to the above three art venues, you can start your evening off at Orange County Parent Child Center (OCPCC) in Tunbridge from 5-6pm. With art Inspired by the season, the theme will be "Leaves are falling, Autumn is calling"
