Women's Empowerment Self-Defense Level 2

Past event
Oct 15, 2019, 6 to 8:30 PM

Empowerment self-defense is a comprehensive approach to violence resistance which focuses on boundary setting, affirmative consent, assertiveness and simple, effective physical skills that empower the student in class and beyond. Participants will learn pre-assault cues to help recognize potentially dangerous situations early, and verbal and physical skills to use to keep themselves safe. Throughout the class the message that girls/women have a right to be safe and take up space will be reinforced, as well as the fact that 100% of the fault of an attack is the fault of the attacker, 100% of the time. Students are encouraged to use their voice and establish their own boundaries.

In Level 2 we will review the techniques learned in level 1 as well as common attacks and defenses. This will include grabs, chokes and ground fighting techniques. The class is taught with a challenge by choice philosophy, which helps further to keep with the empowerment mindset. Level 1 is required. All fitness levels are welcome.
