Relocalizing VT: You Can Get There from Here

Past event
Sep 26, 2019, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio - How people are tackling the challenges of building local networks for transportation in rural Vermont, and why roots are especially powerful as healthy food this time of year.

9:00 - 10:00 am
From enhanced hitchhiking to Uber-like micro-transit to new bus routes to commuter rail, there are all sorts of alternative ways to get from A to B springing up in rural Vermont. Bonnie Waninger, director of the Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission, will tell us what is happening and what is planned in the near future. She'll partially draw on presentations at last week's special session on transportation of the Montpelier City Council and partially on the upcoming October 2 "Local Action for Transportation Transformation" at Montpelier City Hall, 6:00 - 8:30 pm.

Libraries around the state are featuring wildcrafters, herbalists, and others in a week called "Rooted in Vermont." In Waterbury on October 1, at 6:30 pm, herbalist and nutritional counselor Cathy Dodge will offer a presentation on roots, whether in the vegetable and perennial bed or even on the fringes of your landscape. When plants die back in the fall, their strength goes back into their roots for hibernation over the long winter months, making this time a good time to harvest. She'll tell us all about roots and answer your questions on the phone.
