Stockbridge-Gaysville Historical Society presents public lecture, followed by discussion by Dr. Sherry Ackerman on THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF STOCKBRIDGE'S ORESTES BROWNSON (1803-1876) Focus is Brownson's search for authority in democratic American, exploring his concepts of the nature of liberty, the relationship of Church and State, viewpoints on rugged individualism and Brownson's ideas about human nature and the potential for any real progress.
Dr. Ackerman has taught nineteenth century Intellectual History with an emphasis on the interplay between religious and secular cultural development at the College of Siskiyous, CA.
