Local Author Talk at the Bixby Library

Past event
Sep 26, 2019, 7 to 8 PM

Why would a kid living today care about a girl growing up on a rural New England farm more than 100 years ago? Jennifer, the first character that readers meet in "In a Twinkling" had plenty of typical "growing up pains" such as high parental expectations and distractions in math class. Yet a magic ring makes her and young readers observers to a year in the life of Marion, her Ma and Pa, and sisters and Grandmother. It's 1889 and life is different – straw mattresses and lots of chores – but Jennifer learns that the importance of family echoes through the years.

In her talk, Nancy will share how she used the real recollections her grandmother had of her childhood on a farm in Charleston, Maine – still a country town – to create a story intended to help young readers visualize another era and appreciate today.

Meet us in the Bixby Library Community Room. Light refreshments will be provided. Copies of the author's book, "In a Twinkling" will be available for sale.
